South County Youth Athletics

Welcome to the SCYA sideline Cheerleading Program!  

The goal of our Cheer Program is to build confidence, instill teamwork on and off the field all while developing the skills of our athletes. 

Game Schedule

Our Cheerleaders will cheer on the SCYA football teams at all home games.  Girls may be required to do some away games depending on proximity to our home field and schedules.  Each squad will learn sideline cheers, stunts, and a half time show.  We will also be learning a halftime cheer and dance routine to perform at the homecoming pep rally, homecoming game, and competition (grades 1-8 only). 

Practice Schedule

Practices will start in August. Squads will practice twice a week for 90 minutes each. Coaches will contact their teams with locations and times.  Once school is in session we will move into the gymnasium.  Girls are required to be on time for practice in proper practice attire and footwear. They must also have their hair pulled back in a braid or ponytail. Girls must also bring a water bottle to each practice. Please no jeans, dresses, flip flops, or sandals. 

Competition

Cheerleaders in grades 1-8 will be competing in October at the Anne Arundel Youth Cheerleading Associate competition. This is a free event for the cheerleaders. More information will be provided as it gets closer to the event. 

Uniforms

SCYA will provide each girl a skirt, shell, hair bow, and a set of pom-poms. The skirt, shell, and pom-poms must be returned in excellent condition at the end of the season. Items not returned in excellent condition will be charged a $50 cleaning fee. The hair bow is yours to keep.

Each girl will be required to have plain white shoes and white socks for all games.  A long black sleeve shirt and/or black leggings may be worn under your child's uniform in the colder months.  

Each girl will need a pair of blue bloomers ($10) and a personalized cheer backpack ($30) These can be purchased as needed during registration.

Little Squad- Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten (must be 4 by September 1, 2019)

Shining Stars Squad (entering 1-3 grades)

Junior Lady Bulldogs  (entering 4-5 grades)

Lady Bulldogs (middle school squad entering 6-8 grades)

SCYA is a 100% volunteer organization, and we are always looking for coaches, assistant coaches, and team moms.  If you have a positive attitude and love to have fun, we would love you to join us!  

Coaches Information all coaches must have a background check through Anne Arundel County Parks and Rec.
