EXPECTED BEHAVIOR/CODE OF CONDUCT

As outlined in SCYA’s Operations Manual, all players and parents will be required to read, sign, and abide by the Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks Code of Conduct and Parent Pledge as spelled out in the county Youth Player Contract below.  Refusal or failure to sign will disqualify the child from participation in SCYA Sports Programs.  By signing this form, you agree to abide by its rules.  If one violates these rules, a grievance can be filed against that person.  Please see SCYA’s Operations Manual to review the process of how to report Code of Conduct violations/complaints and to review the process in which they are handled.  The Operations Manual can be found on the SCYA website.

  1. Respect the game, play fairly, and follow its rules and regulations.
  2. Show respect for authority to the officials of the game and of the league.
  3. Demonstrate good sportsmanship before, during, and after games.
  4. Help parents and fans understand the league philosophy so they can watch and enjoy the game.
  5. Be courteous to opposing teams and treat all players and coaches with respect.
  6. Be modest when successful and be gracious in defeat.
  7. Respect the privilege of the use of public facilities.
  8. Refrain from the use of drugs, tobacco, alcohol, and abusive language.
  9. I acknowledge that I have read the A.A. County Department of Recreation & Parks Concussion Awareness Form found online at www.aacounty.org/departments/recreation-parks/sports.GUARDIAN

PARENTS PLEDGE:

I recognize that parents are the most important role models for their children and that amateur athletics helps to develop a sense of teamwork, self-worth, and sportsmanship.  I encourage my child to play by the rules and respect the rights of others.  I understand it is important to enforce rules of play and set conduct standards as necessary components in athletics and life.  I will at all times encourage my child to play by the rules, respect the game officials’ decisions and not criticize a game official’s ruling during or after an athletic contest.

CODE OF CONDUCT:

As a Parent, I agree to abide by the following:

  1. Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, fans, and officials at games, practices, and other sporting events.
  2. Place the well-being of my child before a personal desire to win.
  3. Advocate a sports environment for my child that is free of drugs, tobacco, alcohol, and abusive language, and refrain from their use during youth sporting events.
  4. Encourage my child to play by the rules and respect the rights of other players, coaches, fans, and officials.
  5. I acknowledge that I have read the A.A. County Department of Recreation & Parks Concussion Awareness Form found online at www.aacounty.org/departments/recreation-parks/sports.

For our teams to play for AACo, we must submit a Concussion form and a Player’s Contract for each player registered.  They have changed their process to an electronic submission of forms versus hard copies.  Once rosters have been submitted to Rec and Parks prior to season start, an email will be sent to you from AACo Rec and Parks with a link to fill out the forms.  This email will be sent to the email address that was used to register your player with SCYA.  You will have to click the link and log in and create an account on the County website to fill out and submit forms.  These forms need to be submitted prior to the first game.  If for some reason you do not receive a link or the link does not work, below are the links for electronic submission and for paper forms.  Paper forms will be accepted as a LAST RESORT and will need to be emailed to the Commissioner directly for submission to the County.  As of Spring 2022, the County controls the creation of the game schedule.  This too will require patience as they develop their processes.

FALL

The fall season begins on August 1st.  Games begin in September and are held on Saturdays or Sundays (Friday nights for U12).  There is a weekend (possibly two) that will have games both days.  The season will end the first or second week of November depending on makeup games, mainly due to weather.

REGISTRATION

**Please register your player based on his birth year.  If his age group is full and we do not have enough players for a second team in that age group, that means your player will be placed on a waitlist.   Being waitlisted does NOT necessarily mean that your player will not get to play….it just means that he may not get to play at his age-appropriate level, on the team of his choosing, or we do not have a Coach yet.  If a team does not have a parent/volunteer to coach or they do not have enough players to field a team with adequate subs, we will attempt to place those players in the next highest age group if space is available (players cannot play in a lower/younger age group).  If we are unable to place your player on a team a refund will be issued, but we will do our best to avoid this.

REQUESTS

**If you have specific preferences/requests, please indicate them at the time of registration in the “Special Requests” section (i.e.- requesting a specific Coach, to be with a certain friend for carpooling, etc.).  If a player requests to play in a higher age group, this will only be honored if there is room left on the roster for that age group, BUT any age-appropriate registrants will be given preference over a player requesting to play up.  Additionally, requests are NOT guaranteed, but we will do our best to honor them.

UNIFORMS

**All players will need cleats, shin guards, soccer socks and a full uniform consisting of a jersey, shorts, and socks.  You must purchase these when you register.

**We have a cleat exchange program.  If you have a pair of cleats that no longer fit your child and are in good condition, we would love for you to donate them to SCYA.  If you need cleats, you are welcome to look through our selection and take what you need.  Cleat exchange dates will be emailed out in informational emails at the beginning of the season.

**Registration fees are $100 for U8-U12 and $110 for U13-U18 (to cover turf use fees).

** Individual uniform items can be purchased as needed each season.  The costs are- Jersey $30.00, Shorts $26.00, & Socks $13.00.

TEAMS

**The County imposes a maximum roster size limit for each team based on their age group.  Once the limit has been reached additional players cannot be added unless granted special permission from the County.  Additionally, if we are permitted to go above the roster size limit, the new roster limit cannot exceed more than twice the number of field players (for example: U8 is 7v7, thus the new roster max may not exceed 14 players).

**The County may not permit us to add additional teams after their set registration deadline.  Please register your player(s) EARLY to ensure their placement on a team and to allow us time to add an additional team if there are enough players to do so.  Late registrations will only be accepted if a team has room left on their roster and an additional $20.00 late fee will be imposed.

COACHES

**This is an all-volunteer organization and your participation (aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa, cousin, etc.) is crucial.  Please consider volunteering!  If you have an interest in being Head Coach or an Assistant Coach, please indicate it on your child’s registration form and register yourself for the position in which you are volunteering.  Training will be provided for anyone interested in coaching.

**The registration fee for the Head Coach’s child is waived (you will pay online and then a reimbursement will be issued).  A background check through AACo Rec and Parks is required for both Head AND Assistant Coaches (a $7.00 fee is imposed, and it is good for 3 years).  There are also mandatory training modules/courses that the County requires you to take online before the season starts.  Here is the website for more details and instructions on completing a background check:
