EXPECTED BEHAVIOR/CODE OF CONDUCT
As outlined in SCYA’s Operations Manual, all players and parents will be required to read, sign, and abide by the Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks Code of Conduct and Parent Pledge as spelled out in the county Youth Player Contract below. Refusal or failure to sign will disqualify the child from participation in SCYA Sports Programs. By signing this form, you agree to abide by its rules. If one violates these rules, a grievance can be filed against that person. Please see SCYA’s Operations Manual to review the process of how to report Code of Conduct violations/complaints and to review the process in which they are handled. The Operations Manual can be found on the SCYA website.
PLAYER
PARENT/GUARDIAN
PARENTS PLEDGE:
I recognize that parents are the most important role models for their children and that amateur athletics helps to develop a sense of teamwork, self-worth, and sportsmanship. I encourage my child to play by the rules and respect the rights of others. I understand it is important to enforce rules of play and set conduct standards as necessary components in athletics and life. I will at all times encourage my child to play by the rules, respect the game officials’ decisions and not criticize a game official’s ruling during or after an athletic contest.
CODE OF CONDUCT:
As a Parent, I agree to abide by the following:
COUNTY FORMS
As outlined above, for our teams to play for A.A. County Department of Recreation and Parks, we must submit a Concussion Form and a Player’s Contract for each player registered. These forms will be submitted electronically. Prior to the start of the season, after rosters have been sent to A.A. County Department of Recreation and Parks, an email will be sent to you from A.A. County Department of Recreation and Parks with a link to fill out the forms. THIS EMAIL WILL BE SENT TO THE EMAIL ADDRESS THAT WAS USED TO REGISTER YOUR PLAYER WITH SCYA. You will have to click the link and log in and create an account on the A.A. County Department of Recreation and Parks website to fill out and submit forms. These forms need to be submitted prior to the first game. If for some reason you do not receive a link or the link does not work, below are the links for electronic submission and for paper forms. Paper forms will be accepted as a LAST RESORT and will need to be emailed to the SCYA Girls Soccer Commissioner directly for submission.

FALL SEASON
The fall season technically begins on August 1st, however, practices usually will not begin until the week of August 4 or August 11. Games begin after Labor Day and are typically held on Saturdays or Sundays (Friday nights for U12). There is a weekend (possibly two) that will have games on Saturday and Sunday. The season will end the first or second week of November depending on makeup games, mainly due to weather. Please note, A.A. County Department of Recreation and Parks determines the game schedule – we have no ability to change game dates and times.
REGISTRATION
**Please register your player based on his birth year. If his age group is full and we do not have enough players for a second team in that age group, that means your player will be placed on a waitlist. If an age group is waitlisted it will be indicated at the top of the registration page. Being waitlisted does NOT necessarily mean that your player will not get to play….it just means that he may not get to play at his age-appropriate level, on the team of his choosing, or we do not yet have a coach. If a team does not have a parent/volunteer to coach or they do not have enough players to field a team with adequate substitutions, we will attempt to place those players in the next highest age group if space is available (players cannot play in a lower/younger age group). If we are unable to place your player on a team a refund will be issued, but we will do our best to avoid this. Our goal is to make sure that every boy who wants to play is able to play. Additionally, if you are unable to pay the registration fee, please reach out to the Soccer Commissioner directly and every effort will be made to assist in the cost of registration so that your player is able to play.
REQUESTS
**If you have specific preferences/requests, please indicate them at the time of registration in the “Special Requests” section (i.e.- requesting a specific coach, to be with a certain friend for carpooling, etc.). If a player requests to play in a higher age group, this will ONLY be honored if there is room left on the roster for that age group, BUT any age-appropriate registrants will be given preference over a player requesting to play up. Additionally, requests are NOT guaranteed, but we will do our best to honor them.
UNIFORMS
**All players will need cleats, shin guards, soccer socks and a full uniform consisting of a jersey ($30), shorts ($26), and socks ($13). You must purchase these when you register. (You only need to purchase what you need – i.e., if you only need a jersey because you already have the shorts, just purchase the jersey). An image of the current uniform is below.
**We have a cleat exchange program. If you have a pair of cleats that no longer fit your child and are in good condition, we would love for you to donate them to SCYA. If you need cleats, you are welcome to look through our selection and take what you need. Cleat exchange dates will be emailed out in informational emails at the beginning of the season.
**Registration fees are $110 for U8-U12 and $120 for U13-U18 (to cover turf use fees).
TEAMS
**The County imposes a maximum roster size limit for each team based on their age group. Once the limit has been reached additional players cannot be added unless granted special permission from the County. Additionally, if we are permitted to go above the roster size limit, the new roster limit cannot exceed more than twice the number of field players (for example: U8 is 7v7, thus the new roster max may not exceed 14 players).
**The County may not permit us to add additional teams after their set registration deadline. Please register your player(s) EARLY to ensure their placement on a team and to allow us time to add an additional team if there are enough players to do so. Late registrations will only be accepted if a team has room left on their roster and an additional $20.00 late fee will be imposed.
COACHES
**SCYA is an all-volunteer organization and your participation (aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa, cousin, etc.) is crucial. Please consider volunteering! If you have an interest in being Head Coach or an Assistant Coach, please indicate it on your child’s registration form and register yourself for the position in which you are volunteering. Training will be provided for anyone interested in coaching.
**The registration fee for the Head Coach’s child is waived. A background check through A.A. County Department of Recreation and Parks is required for both Head AND Assistant Coaches (a $7.00 fee is imposed, and it is good for 3 years). There are also mandatory training modules/courses that A.A. County Department of Recreation and Parks requires you to take online before the season starts. Here is the website for more details and instructions on completing a background check:

EVALUATIONS
Evaluations are used to determine what skill level each player possesses. If we have enough players to form more than one team in the same age group, evaluations may be conducted (these are NOT tryouts as every player will make a team). These are held in a very organized manner and are 100% fair. Unbiased evaluators with soccer experience will determine the placement of the players. Their scores are tallied, and the players will be placed on teams according to their skill level. Each team is then registered with A.A. County Department of Recreation and Parks at different levels/divisions and will not play each other. This is to the betterment of the players.
