South County Youth Athletics is dedicated to bringing basketball to all kids of South County. Our youth teams feed directly into our high school programs. All teams compete in the Anne Arundel County League, as we guarantee to teach basketball with the emphasis on fun, positive sportsmanship, hard work and discipline.

Our county level teams are for boy’s ages 8 through 17. Your age before September 1, 2023 determines your age level. Age groups are: 8U (3rd grade), 9U (4th grade), 10U (5th grade), 11U (6th grade), 12U (7th grade), 13U (8th grade), 14/15U (9th and 10th grade), 16/17U (11th and 12th grade). Example: If your child is in 4th grade and turned 10 before September 1, 2022, they must play up in the 10U (5th grade) group. Age is what the county goes by not grade for winter and spring basketball. Requests to play up an age group level must be made during registration or by email prior to team formation. If registering for 8U, your child must turn 8 years of age before the first scheduled county game is played, usually the first or second Saturday of December. Teams may be determined using several factors which include total number of kids in a particular age group, use of fall workouts, an evaluation process, or a combination of all three when possible. The county has 3 different levels of play A, B, & C. The assigned levels allow for all participants to participate and play at or near their skill level, whether it is at higher competitive level, or at a level where individuals can continue to learn. Practices are generally one hour, twice per week and will be held at Southern Middle School, Tracey’s Elementary, Lothian Elementary, Shady Side Elementary or South County Rec Center. Games are generally on Saturdays for all teams 8U - 13U, with some Sunday games. 14/15U and 16/17U games will be played on Sundays. The county selects the gym teams will play in, and this can be anywhere throughout Anne Arundel County. Teams may play in the same gym every week, but in some cases may have to travel to other locations based on gym availability.

UNIFORM FEE – Uniforms will remain the same for 8u-13u, returning players may use their previous jersey and shorts. If a new size is needed, please order during registration. All 14-17U are required to purchase a new jersey each season.

After the first practice begins, all unpaid registrations are assessed the $20 late fee.
Fall Workouts
You must complete registration prior to attending Fall Workouts
SCYA will hold workout sessions starting in October to introduce new families to the basketball program and welcome back returning players and their families. Registration is required to attend workouts. Our workout sessions are designed to allow players to learn new skills and practice existing ones, shoot around and play pickup games. All skill sets are welcome from beginner to advance. Workout sessions will conclude October 28th in preparation for the season.
COACHING/VOLUNTEERS
All coach’s, including all assistant coaches and anyone over the age of 18 that will be assisting with the team, must register within the application and be assigned to the team. They will also need to have a completed background check on file with Recreation and Parks in order to coach, assist or be on the bench/floor at any time, no exceptions.
Coaches must complete a number of certifications provided by Anne Arundel Parks and Rec. Once registered, you will be provided with the information to access and complete.
